Northwest Soccer Clubs Win 1st Round Post-Season Matches

(Grand Island, NE) - The Northwest girl's soccer team picked up a 2-0 win over Hastings on Monday night at Viking Field to open up the post-season. The Vikings are now 12-3 on the season and will next take on the York Dukes who downed Kearney Catholic 1-0 in the second match of the night apart of the B-7 sub-district tournament. Northwest vs the Dukes will start at 6:00 pm at Viking Field. The winner of the match gets the automatic birth to a district final later in the week to be then one win away from the state tournament. Northwest has two wins over York this season. In a regular season match-up on March 28th Northwest won 3-1. The two matchup up in the Central Conference tournament on April 13th with the Vikings coming away with the victory 6-0. 

B-7 Sub District Bracket - HERE

(Hastings, NE) - The Northwest boys would squeak out a 1-0 shootout win over Kearney Catholic in the boy's B-7 sub-district tournament at Hastings College. The Vikings have become all too accustomed to shootout matches as the contest with the Stars Monday night would be the fifth shootout match for Northwest this season as they are now 3-2 in shootouts this season. The Vikings would avenge an early season loss to the Stars as Northwest lost to Kearney Catholic on March 19th, 2-1, in a shootout. Northwest is now 8-7 on the season and will play in the B-7 sub-district tournament championship tonight vs Hastings at Hastings College starting at 6:00 pm. The Tigers defeated Aurora last night by a final score of 7-1. The Tigers defeated Northwest on April 18th by a final score of 3-0 in the only meeting between the two teams this season.
