Central Catholic Announces New Head Football & Softball Coaches
(Grand Island, NE) - Grand Island Central Catholic has announced the official names of head coaches for the Crusader football and softball teams. Jeff Ashby will take over as football coach as Tim Dvorak exited the position a few weeks ago. Meanwhile, Maria Tibbets will take over for the Crusaders. Tibbets was an assistant for Brock Culler who left GICC to take over the head coach position at Concordia University. Below is an official release from GICC per their school website.
Central Catholic announces the hire of Jeff Ashby as the new GICC Head Football Coach. "My goal is to make football a successful sport like all the other sports at GICC", Ashby said. "I like to get as many students involved as possible to rebuild and improve. Central Catholic has one of the toughest schedules in C-2 football, and we need to get every athlete on board so we can attack this schedule in the best way possible."
Ashby has been a football coach for 33 years (31 of which were as head coach), divided among Polk-Hordville, GIPS, Harvard, Giltner, and Wood River. He'll begin working with the Crusaders this summer.
We're excited Coach Ashby is coming to coach our Crusaders; he has a lot of championship-winning experience," Future Activities Director Bill Gavers said of Ashby's hire. "He's going to be a great head coach for us. His track record speaks for itself."

Central Catholic announces the promotion of Maria Tibbetts to Head Softball Coach. Tibbetts has been GICC's Assistant Softball Coach the past seven years, in addition to being a Stinger Softball head coach, Central Select Softball's founder and head coach, the head of Advanced Youth Travel Team Skill Development, and a part-time Assistant Softball Coach at Concordia College,
"I'm very excited for the opportunity to grow the Crusader Softball program," Tibbetts said. "My passion is developing youth softball and basketball players." Tibbets currently serves as an Assistant Girls' Basketball Coach at GICC as well.
"Maria will be a great head coach", Activities Director Dick Ross added. "As the assistant, she's worked well with not only the girls from GICC, but also our co-op schools of Doniphan, Wood River, and Heartland Lutheran. We are excited to announce Coach TIbbett's hire."
