Groundbreaking Held For Nebraska Veterans Cemetery At Grand Island

(Grand Island, NE) - Shovels in the ground! The dream is becoming a reality for the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Grand Island. An official groundbreaking took place off the corner of Capital Avenue and Webb Road on Friday morning. Several special guests were in attendance speaking at the event including Grand Island Mayor Roger Steele, Hall County Board member Pamela Lancaster, District 35 Senator Ray Aguilar, Governor Jim Pillen, U.S. Representative Adrian Smith, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts, and NDVA Director John Hilgert.
At this time when construction will start is to be announced but once completed the new area will consist of a committal shelter, memorial walk, and memorial wall, along with an avenue of flags. There will also be an addition of an administration and maintenance building. The completion of the project is expected to be completed in the spring of 2025.
