#6 Lopers Breeze Past Northeastern State
Kearney, Neb. – The sixth-ranked Nebraska Kearney volleyball team hit .351 and 10 different players had a kill in a sweep of first-year Northeastern State (-8, -13, -14) Friday night at Buckle Court.
The Lopers (17-1, 6-0) have now won 51 consecutive sets, breaking the school record of 48. That was set by the 2004 team that went 40-1 and reached Final Four.
All 18 available players took to the court with sophomore outside Addison Budke (Beloit, Kan.) at a match-best 10 kills, freshman outside Madeline Lamb (Omaha Westside) providing 10 digs, seven kills and a .700 efficiency and freshman DS/outside Taryn Arbuthnot (Sumner) at two block assists, five kills and 10 digs.
NSU (1-15, 0-5), which hired head coach Maria Jacobus as its inaugural head coach this past March, hit -.042 (23-28-118). They did get six kills in eight swings (.500 pct.) from Lanie Browne with Simeon Paradiso at two block assists, four digs and five kills.
Finally for the Lopers, junior outside Grace Schmedding (Olathe, Kan.) hit .714 and had four digs and five kills, senior libero Ellie Spang (Ft. Wayne, Ind.) provided a match-best 11 digs and lefty Julia Davenport (La Vista) had UNK's lone ace.
The Blue and Gold head to Northwest Missouri (6-9, 3-2) and eighth-ranked Missouri Western (14-1, 5-0) next weekend.
