#10 Dordt Too Much for Broncos in 58-0 Defeat

Hastings College

(Sioux Center, IA) – Coming off their first win of the season in a high-scoring battle, the Hastings Broncos fell 58-0 to the #10 Dordt Defenders on Saturday.

Hastings opened their first drive with a 40-yard pass from sophomore Carson Kudlacek to sophomore Tanner-James Friend, then sophomore running back Josh Ray had an 11-yard run. Their third play resulted in a fumble and Dordt took a 7-0 advantage by scoring a touchdown after the turnover.

Similar to the Broncos' first possession, they moved the ball well with Ray carrying the ball for 23 yards on the first four plays. Two plays later, Dordt picked off the Broncos with good field possession. A big pass play set them up in the red zone and they punched it in for a touchdown three plays later to expand the lead to 14-0.

A fumble to open Hastings' third possession turned into a field goal, giving the Defenders a 17-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Dordt forced a punt on the following drive and drove the ball down the field for a touchdown to make it 24-0. The Defenders continued to grow their lead as they scored a few minutes later on a 27-yard touchdown run, then added another touchdown right before halftime to make it 38-0 at the break.

The Defenders kept their foot on the gas pedal in the third quarter, scoring a touchdown three plays into the second half to take a 45-0 lead. Hastings picked up a couple of first downs on the next drive, but a couple of sacks led to a punt. Dordt was driving on their next drive and took a shot at the end zone, but junior linebacker Jake Lambert picked off the pass to stop their drive.

Dordt would score a couple more touchdowns to make the final score 58-0. For the game, Ray had 14 carries for 71 yards and Kudlacek was 6-8 passing for 61 yards. Lambert led the team in tackles with seven, along with six tackles from junior defensive back Jason Olford.

Up next, Hastings will travel to Forest City, IA in their first conference matchup versus Waldorf on Saturday, September 28 at 1pm.
