#2 Lopers Record 25th Consecutive Win Over Rival Tigers
The second-ranked Nebraska Kearney wrestling team completed its regular season with a 39-4 win over rival Fort Hays State Friday night in Kansas.
The Lopers finish up the dual season 14-4 (4-1 MIAA) and now prepare for the regional championships Feb. 28 in Colorado.
To record a 25th consecutive win over the Tigers (3-9, 1-3), UNK recorded four majors, two tech falls, and a fall. Top-ranked heavyweight Crew Howard (Clarinda, Ia.) recorded his 14th straight victory with a fall in just 1:54 while 15th-ranked Zach Ourada (Omaha Skutt) needed just 2:28 to have a 15-0 tech fall at 133 lbs. Next, graduate Daniel DeRosier (Bellevue East) had a 15-0 tech fall at 149 lbs. with redshirt freshman Alex Munoz (Santa Clarita, Calif.) stepping into the varsity lineup again and winning 13-4 at 184 lbs. Finally, UNK won both "extra" matches via tech fall and fall.
The NCAA Super Region VI Championships are hosted by the Colorado School of Mines and being at 10 a.m. Central on Feb. 28.
