Back by Popular Demand, Walking Tours Return to Railside
Grand Island, Neb. — Grand Island Tourism is once again inviting residents and visitors to explore the stories, architecture and public art of downtown Grand Island through its free guided walking tour series.
Beginning in June and continuing through September, the popular Railside walking tours will feature several returning topics focused on local historic eras, buildings and people, plus the art of Sculpture Walk Railside. Due to continued interest and limited group sizes, reservations are required for all tours, and to provide more opportunities for participants throughout the summer, registration for each tour will open approximately one month before its scheduled date.
“When we launched these tours in 2023, groups were intentionally kept very small because of the challenges that came with downtown noise and crowding,” Dana Jelinek of Grand Island Tourism said. “Since then, we’ve added listening devices that allow us to comfortably expand group sizes from six to 20 and create a better experience for participants.”
Tour topics and dates include:
Historic Buildings — June 18 and July 21 at 6:30 p.m.
Early Immigrant Business Owners — June 30 and August 6 at 6:30 p.m.
Downtown Grand Island in the 1940s — July 16 and August 18 at 6:30 p.m.
Sculpture Walk Railside (Family-Focused) — July 11 at 9 a.m.
Sculpture Walk Railside — September 9 at 6 p.m.
Because space is limited and tours frequently fill up quickly, early registration is encouraged. Registered participants will receive additional tour details prior to their selected tour date. To reserve your spot now, please contact Dana Jelinek at [email protected] or by calling (308) 382-4400. For those unable to attend a scheduled tour, Grand Island Tourism also offers free self-guided tour brochures available at its office located at 201 W. 3rd Street. Customized private guided tours may also be arranged for visiting groups with advance notice.
Grand Island Tourism is dedicated to promoting Grand Island and Hall County by attracting visitors, supporting the local economy and showcasing the community’s unique history, culture, and attractions.
