Battle of the Badges Blood Drive to Help Maintain Healthy Blood Supply

American Red Cross Give Something

MAY 19, 2026 – Law enforcement and fire personnel are often the first to respond when there is an emergency. They are also quick to respond when there is a need, such as the need for blood donations. The American Red Cross is partnering with local first responders for the annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive, June 2-4 in the Tri-Cities, with an additional opportunity to give in York on June 22.

During this blood drive, the Fire Departments and Police Departments from the area will compete to see who can recruit the most blood donors.

Battle of the Badges Blood Drive
June 2-3, Noon-6 p.m.: Law Enforcement Center, 111 Public Safety Drive, Grand Island, NE 68801
June 2-3, Noon-6 p.m.: Ft. Kearney Chapter, 520 W. 48th St, Kearney, NE 68845
June 4, Noon-6 p.m.: Hastings City Auditorium, 400 N. Hastings Ave., Hastings, NE 68901
June 22, Noon-6 p.m.: York Fire Station, 1714 N. Lincoln Ave., York, NE 68467

Donors are asked to call 1-800-RED CROSS or go to redcrossblood.org to schedule a blood donation appointment, using Sponsor Code: Tri City BOB.

All who come to give will receive a commemorative “Battle of the Badges” t-shirt, while supplies last. Additionally, all presenting donors will receive a $15 Amazon.com Gift Card.

Battle of the Badges plays an important role in helping to maintain a healthy blood supply. As summer activities fill up calendars, the American Red Cross urges donors to set a goal to help save lives by booking blood and platelet donation appointments now as the need for blood doesn’t take a summer break.

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
