Bluejay Baseball Remains Hot, Win Over NDSU

Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Baseball raced out to a 5-0 lead and held on for a 5-2 win over North Dakota State on Tuesday, April 22. The win lifted Creighton to 24-12 on the season, while North Dakota State fell to 12-23.
The Bluejays took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Tate Gillen led off with a bloop double to left. The Creighton center fielder went to third via a sacrifice bunt from Matt Scherrman and scored on a wild pitch.
Creighton's third inning followed a similar path as Kyle Hess laced a one-out double to right, took third on a grounder. This time Scherrman lined an RBI single to center.
The 2-0 lead doubled in the bottom of the fourth. Ben North got things rolling with a triple to right. He came in to score on a fielder's choice as North beat the throw to the plate. Following a single from Will MacLean that sent Teddy Deters to third, another fielder's choice pushed the game to 4-0.
Creighton's final run crossed in the fifth as Nolan Sailors walked, stole second and scored on an RBI single from North.
The Bison offense got going in the sixth with an RBI single from Sam Canton, but North Dakota State left the bases full. Canton was responsible for another RBI in the seventh, forcing in a run via a hit batter, but once more the Bison left the bags full.
Creighton starter Ian Koosman earned the win (5-3), notching seven strikeouts and allowing just one hit in 4.2 frames. North Dakota State starter
Leland Wilson took the loss (0-2) as he allowed one run on one hit in his lone inning of work.
Bluejay reliever Shea Wendt picked up his second save with a flawless final two frames.
The Bluejays are back in action tomorrow in a neutral site contest against South Dakota State in Sioux Falls, S.D. at 6:00 p.m.
