Bluejay Baseball Salvages Final Game in Texas with 5-4 Win in 12
Cleburne, Texas -- Creighton Baseball salvaged its final game at the College Baseball Series in Cleburne with a 5-4 win over Tarleton State in 12 innings on Sunday, March 1.
After TSU took a 1-0 lead in the first on a solo home run by Rayner Heinrich, Creighton answered in the second with a leadoff triple from Ben North and an RBI grounder from Connor Capece.
The Bluejays claimed the lead at 3-1 in the fourth as Teddy Deters laced a double down the right field line to open the frame, then with two down Isaac Wachsmann blasted a two-run homer over the center field wall.
TSU rallied with single runs in the eighth and ninth frames, then seized a 4-3 lead in the 12th. Creighton responded with a leadoff single from Wachsmann, a one-out pinch hit single from Nick Bowron and Nick Venteicher was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Rocco Gump and Nate McHugh cashed in the opportunity with RBI singles to give Creighton the win.
Reliever Jimmy Burke earned the win (1-1) with three innings of one run ball. Tarleton State reliever Matt McCullough suffered the loss (0-1), allowing two runs on three hits in 1.1 innings.
The win pushed the Bluejays to 3-6 on the season, while Tarleton State fell to 6-5.
