CHI Health Invests $164.5 Million into the Community

KEARNEY & GRAND ISLAND- CHI Health gave back more than $164.5 million in community benefits last fiscal year. The health system, comprising 30 hospitals, 200 clinics and more than 8,620 employees in Nebraska, Iowa, North Dakota and Minnesota, recently posted the CHI Health Community Impact Report 2025 on its website.

According to the report, the largest investment, 75 percent, ensured access to healthcare in communities served by CHI Health hospitals and clinics. That $122.5 million helped 55,227 uninsured or underinsured patients who could not afford to pay for healthcare services, and subsidized the unreimbursed cost of providing care for an additional 283,673 Medicaid patients.

The remaining, $42 million, was invested in internal and external services, programs and partner organizations to improve community health. CHI Health’s Community Health Improvement Grant program, alone, invested $1,126,841 in local nonprofits that collectively served over 219,000 individuals and addressed critical challenges including mental health, hunger, homelessness and violence.

CHI Health Good Samaritan contributed more than $4.69 million in total community benefit locally, including medical financial assistance for 2,740 patients. Similarly, CHI Health St. Francis provided more than $3.92 million in total community benefit, with 2,575 patients receiving medical financial assistance.

“These significant investments are a reflection of our mission–serving those who are vulnerable, bringing hope and healing through compassion and kindness, making known God’s healing presence as we provide high-quality care to all who need it,” says Steve Shieber, president, St. Francis and interim president, Good Samaritan.
