City of Grand Island – Stolley Park Road Paving Improvement Project; South Locust Street to
Stuhr Road.

The City of Grand Island Public Works Department is announcing the closure of the Stolley Park
Road from Stuhr Road west approximately 1,200 feet on Thursday, September 10, 2026.
Stolley Park Road detour route will be maintained on South Locust Street, Fonner Park Road,
and Stuhr Road. Fonner Park Campus’ main south entrance will remain open through October
2, 2026. Adjacent properties will be contacted directly for access accommodation during
construction. This phase of Stolley Park Road is anticipated to be complete and open to traffic
by December 15, 2026.

The Stolley Park Road project includes new construction from South Locust Street to Stuhr
Road. The project will replace the existing asphalt street with a concrete curb and gutter
roadway section along with sidewalks/bike trail, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and associated
pavement markings and signage.

The first phase of the Stolley Park Road Project from South Locust Street to the main south
entrance of the Fonner Park Campus was complete and opened to traffic in August 2026.
On January 27, 2026, City Council awarded the Stolley Park Road construction contract to
Diamond Engineering Company of Grand Island, Nebraska for $3,323,770.00.
