City of Grand Island to Host Ribbon Cutting for Pier Park Skatepark

Grand Island, Neb. — The City of Grand Island, in partnership with the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce, will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the new Pier Park Skatepark at 4 p.m. on Thursday, September 25.
Speakers at the event will include Grand Island Mayor Roger Steele, Parks & Recreation Director Todd McCoy and Grand Island Chamber President Mary Berlie. The Pier Park Skatepark project is the result of multiple public input meetings and extensive conversations with community stakeholders.
This is the first major renovation to the skatepark in nearly 25 years, and is expected to better serve current and future generations of skaters. Demolition of the old steel and wood structures began on Monday, April 14. Artisan Concrete Services oversaw the removal of the longstanding features and led construction of the new facility. The upgraded skatepark now features modern, durable concrete elements commonly found at leading skateparks across the country.
The total investment in the project came to $892,783.50.
Community members are invited to attend the ribbon cutting and see firsthand the new space designed to provide an inclusive, safe and exciting recreational experience for skaters of all skill levels.
