Cohen Nelson Named KJCCC West Division Pitcher of the Week
Cloud County Community College sophomore Cohen Nelson has been named Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) West Division Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season.
A native of Grand Island, Nebraska, Nelson improved to 5-0 on the season after guiding the T-Birds to a 10-0 run-rule victory over Seward County Community College on May 2. Nelson went 4.2 innings, allowing no runs on three hits with one walk while striking out 10. Nelson now has three double-digit strikeout games in KJCCC play and eight strikeouts or more in his last five starts. Nelson currently leads the conference with a 1.14 ERA.
Nelson and Cloud County will begin postseason play with a best-of-three series in the opening round of the 2026 NJCAA Division I Plains District Tournament May 7-9. Cloud County is the No. 2 seed and will face No. 15 seed Highland in Concordia on Thursday, May 7 at 2 pm. Game two will be played Friday, May 8 at 1 pm. If necessary, game three will be played Saturday, May 9 at 1 pm.
