Creighton Baseball Falls To Tarleton State, 8-7
Cleburne, Texas -- Creighton Baseball dropped an 8-7 decision to Tarleton State in the opening game of the REV Tournament on Friday, February 27. The loss moved the Bluejays to 2-5 on the season, while TSU climbed to 6-3.
Nate McHugh was the star for the Bluejays, opening the game with a two-run blast and belting his second two-run blast in the seventh. McHugh finished the game 4-for-4 with five RBI.
After McHugh's two run shot gave Creighton an early 2-0 edge, the Bluejays pushed across a third run in the first on two singles and productive out from Connor Capece.
Tarleton answered with a solo home run in the bottom of the first, then plated three in the fifth to knot the game at 4-4.
Joe Washburn pushed across Creighton's fourth tally with an RBI single in the fourth, while McHugh made it 6-4 via his rocket in the seventh. TSU responded with a two-run homer off the bat of Raynor Heinrich in the seventh and took its first lead later in the inning via a run-scoring wild pitch.
Creighton answered with a bases loaded single by McHugh in the eighth, but the go-ahead run was cut down at the plate
After entering a tie game with the bases full and two down in the eighth, Bluejay reliever got out of the jam with a strikeout. The hurler, however, suffered the loss (0-1) by surrendering a run in the ninth. Tarleton State's Tai Phetluangsy earned the win (1-0) with a scoreless ninth.
Creighton continues play in the REV Tournament on Saturday, February 28 at 2:00 pm against Abilene Christian.
