Creighton Baseball Wins In Sioux Falls vs South Dakota State

Sioux Falls, S.D. -- A trio of Bluejay hitters delivered at least three RBI as Nolan Sailors, Kyle Hess and Matt Scherrman each launched home runs, but the star on the evening was starter Henry Prindl who limited South Dakota State to one run over four innings in Creighton's 12-2 win in seven innings over the Jackrabbits on Wednesday,April 23.
The win pushed Creighton to 25-12 on the season, while South Dakota State fell to 9-27 overall.
Creighton's offense got rolling in the top of the first as a leadoff walk to Tate Gillen led to the frist run on the game via an RBI single from Sailors. Later in the frame Scherrman blasted a two run double to into the right field corner.'
Leading 3-0 after one, Sailors blast the first home run of the contest in the second, launching a majestic two-run shot that gave the Bluejays a 5-0 edge.
The offense continued to deliver in the third as Hess powered a three-run shot over the right field wall to make it 8-0.
South Dakota State got on the board in the bottom half of the third, courtesy of a solo shot to right from Nolan Grawe.
Following a scoreless fourth, Creighton put two more on the board in the fifth on a bases loaded hit by pitch from Nate McHugh and a sacrifice fly from Hess.
Creighton's 10-1 advantage grew to 12-1 in the sixth as Scherrman connected on the Bluejays' third round trippper of the contest.
The final run of the game came in the bottom of the seventh as the Jackrabbits pushed across a run on a walk, a single and a sac fly from Luke Luskey.
Prindl picked up the win (1-0), allowing one run on three hits in four innings of work. Using just 58 pitches, Prindl walked one batter and notched one strikeout.
Sailors closed the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Hess went 2-for-2 with four RBI and Scherrman closed the game 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored.
Creighton returns to action on Friday, April 25 as the Bluejays open a BIG EAST series against Villanova.
