Creighton Prep Downs GI Home Federal Sunday Night

(Grand Island, NE) - Creighton Prep Five Points Bank defeated Grand Island Home Federal on Sunday night, 8-1 at Ryder Park.

The game would be scoreless until the bottom of the third when Jack Cosgrove hit a two-out grand slam to give Prep a 4-0 advantage. Prep would then bring around four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. It was a tough day at the plate for Grand Island, which was held hitless in the game. GI would get the bases loaded in the top of the 7th inning after Prep walked Gage Gannon. Then, Ethan Coslor would be hit by a pitch, followed by Gabe Ruiz drawing a walk, all with only one out. Brock Cushing would then hit a RBI sac fly by Brock Cushing to bring in the lone run of the game for Grand Island. 

Gabe Ruiz would get the start on the mound for Home Federal, going 4 1/3 innings, giving up seven hits, eight runs, four walks, and would have two strikeouts on 75 pitches. 

Prep moves to the winners bracket final on Monday vs Elkhorn North at 7:00 pm with a 2-0 record. Meanwhile, Grand Island Home Federal suffers its first loss of the Class A National Division state tournament after defeating Kearney on Saturday night, 10-3.
