OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton center Ryan Kalkbrenner has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week after posting double-doubles in wins over Providence and No. 14 Connecticut.

Kalkbrenner averaged 18.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 4.0 blocks and 3.0 assists per game in a pair of victories last week. The Preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year shot 56.5 percent from the field (13-23) and made 8-of-10 free throws (80 percent).

Kalkbrenner opened the week with 20 points, 10 rebounds and six blocked shots in an 84-64 win vs. Providence on Tuesday. He followed that with 16 points, 10 rebounds and a pair of swats in a win at #14 UConn. Kalkbrenner iced CU's win in Storrs when he grabbed a defensive rebound with 1.4 seconds left and sank two foul shots to give CU a 68-63 win, his eighth triumph in 10 games against the Huskies.

This is the second BIG EAST Player of the Week this season for Kalkbrenner, who also won it on November 11th.

Creighton (12-6, 5-2 BIG EAST) returns to action on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. when it visits DePaul (10-9, 1-7 BIG EAST).
