Fatal Crash in Hall County Follows Flight from DUI Investigation

Hall County Fatality

APRIL 28, 2026 (GRAND ISLAND, NEB.)  — One man is deceased after crashing his vehicle while attempting to flee an impaired driving investigation in Hall County.

At approximately 2:13 p.m. Tuesday, a trooper observed a westbound GMC Sierra experience a total tire failure and slide to a stop near mile marker 310 on Interstate 80. The trooper stopped to assist and check on the driver.

After speaking with the driver, the trooper began to suspect that the driver may have been impaired. The trooper asked the driver to exit the vehicle and walk to the trooper’s vehicle to gather more information.

As the trooper approached his unit, the subject ran back to his vehicle and fled westbound on Interstate 80. Due to the condition of the vehicle and observed impairment, the trooper initiated a pursuit.

The trooper performed a tactical vehicle intervention to safely stop the vehicle. The intervention was not successful, and the driver continued westbound on Interstate 80. The vehicle exited I-80 at mile marker 305 and began traveling northbound toward Alda. Shortly after, the vehicle lost control and crashed.

The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was ejected during the crash. The trooper called for rescue units and additional assistance while locating the driver outside of the crash scene. The adult male driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Nebraska State Patrol has asked the South Central Area Law Enforcement Services (SCALES) group to investigate the incident. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is working with the Grand Island Police Department in investigating this crash.
