Fonner Park to Implement Goose Mitigation Measures

Grand Island, Neb. — Fonner Park officials are partnering with Nebraska Game & Parks and the Grand Island Police Department to address ongoing issues caused by resident Canada geese on the property.
Beginning Tuesday, September 2, Fonner Park will begin implementing several mitigation strategies to manage goose activity following the overseeding of the racetrack infield. Planned measures include installation of fencing around the pond area and the use of approved sound deterrents such as propane noise cannons, pyrotechnics and electronic harassment devices.
GIPD authorized the use of these sound-making devices on Wednesday, August 27. Fonner Park will now be permitted to carry out deterrent activities daily between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. from September 2 through October 31, with the option for renewal upon mutual agreement.
The efforts are intended to reduce property damage, limit health and safety concerns and protect new grass growth within the racetrack grounds. For more information, please contact Communications Manager Spencer Schubert at [email protected]
