GI Home Federal Defeats Columbus, 8-3

(Grand Island, NE) - Grand Island Home Federal (4-8) downed Columbus Cornerstone Insurance 8-3 at Ryder Park on Tuesday night.
GI got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning after Broxton Barrientos singled, scoring one run, Gabe Ruiz had an RBI single, and Gage Gannon doubled, scoring Gabe Ruiz from first base. Home Federal would also score a run on a balk called vs Columbus pitching.
Grand Island would tack on two more runs in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 7-0. Ruiz hit a sac fly, scoring one run, and Gannon hit a solo home run to left field, which was the first home run of the season for GI.
Ethan Coslor earned the win for Grand Island. The right-handed pitcher allowed six hits and three runs over six innings, striking out six and walking two. Cosler, who got his first win of the season, tossed 92 pitches and had 61 strikes. Karsten Killiam took the loss for Columbus, going two and two-thirds innings, surrendering four runs on three hits, striking out two, and walking one. Dyllan Hinrichs collected the save coming into the 7th inning, getting the last three out,s including a 6-4-3 double play to end the game.
Next action for both squads will be Wednesday, June 11th. Columbus is at Hastings. Grand Island hosts North Platte for a doubleheader. Game one is at 4:00 pm with game two to follow at 6:30 pm. Game two will air live on KRGI 1430/105.5 & krgi.com.
