GI Home Federal Eliminates Papillion La Vista, 6-3

(Kearney, NE) - Grand Island Home Federal Bank was victorious against Papillion La Vista 6-3 on Monday at the Class A National Division State Tournament at Memorial Field.

An error put Grand Island on the board in the top of the first.

Grand Island Home Federal Bank added to their early lead in the top of the second inning when Grayson Sack singled, scoring one run, Ethan Mader tripled, scoring two runs, and Ian Arends hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.

Gabe Ruiz earned the win for GI. The right-handed pitcher allowed eight hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking two. Landyn Albrecht took the loss for Papio Post 32 Pinnacle Bank 18U. The pitcher went seven innings, surrendering six runs (two earned) on eight hits, striking out two and walking two.

Mader led Grand Island Home Federal Bank with two runs batted in. The right fielder went 1-for-4 on the day. Brody Davidson went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead GI in hits. Grand Island Home Federal Bank turned in one double play in the game. Home Federal didn't commit a single error in the field. Davidson had the most chances in the field with five.

Number seven hitter, Sammy Dentinger, showed the depth of Papillion La Vista Pinnacle Bank lineup by leading them with two hits in three at-bats. Albrecht, Dentinger, and Adrian Botos each drove in one run for Papio Post 32 Pinnacle Bank 18U. Papio Post 32 Pinnacle Bank 18U turned two double plays in the game.
