GI Home Federal Wins At Hastings


(Hastings, NE) - A hot evening didn't phase the Grand Island Home Federal baseball team on Tuesday night as GI would get a 9-1 6-inning road win over Hastings Five Points Bank at Duncan Field. Hastings would take an early 1-0 lead in the first as Nolan Hyde would knock in an RBI single. That score would hold until the top of the third inning as Grand Island would tie the game with an RBI single from Broxton Barrientos. It would be the season's 36th hit and 30th RBI for Barrientos. After a scoreless fourth, Grand Island would open the game up in the top of the fifth scoring 6 runs to lead 7-1. The inning would be highlighted by Grayson Sack who batted twice in the frame. He would have a double in his first at-bat and follow it up with a 2 RBI double in his second time to the plate. Also in the fifth Ian Arends would knock in a 2 RBI single. Home Federal would add two more runs in the top of the sixth to make it 9-1 as the game would end in the 6th inning. 

Dyllan Hinirchs for the second straight Tuesday would have a solid outing. Tuesday, June 18th Hinrichs would pitch 7 innings at Kearney and leave after 107 pitches and 10 strikeouts with the game tied at 2-2. In the game vs Hastings Five Points Bank, Hinrichs would go 5 and 1/3 giving up four hits, one run, 2 walks, and have 7 strikeouts in the game on 97 pitches. Sack would come for the final 2/3 of the sixth and toss 13 pitches to close out the game giving up one hit and had one strikeout. 

Grand Island has now won five in a row and picked up their 20th win of the season to move the record to 20-5. Grand Island also with the win secured a spot in the Cornhusker League championship game. GI would find out later in the night that North Platte defeated Kearney 9-1. That gave Grand Island the host spot at Ryder Park for the championship game on Wednesday, July 10th. 

Hastings Johnson Imperial Homes defeated Grand Island Five Points Bank in the juniors game on Tuesday night by a final score of 9-2.

Grand Island Five Points Bank & Home Federal will be back in action tonight hosting Columbus. The junior's game will start at 5:00 pm with the senior's game to follow at 7:30 pm. 

The next broadcast on KRGI 1430/105.5 will be game two of a doubleheader at 2:30 pm on July 3rd as GI will host Pius X at Ryder Park. The double header will start at Noon.
