GICC Basketball Splits At St Cecilia


(Hastings, NE) - The GICC Crusaders made a short road trip to St Cecilia on Thursday night. It would be the regular season finale for the GICC girls as they would fall short to the Hawkettes 53-43. GICC would fall down early in the game 7-0 and wouldn't score their first points of the contest until the 5:50 mark of the first quarter. The Crusaders would make a comeback in the first quarter to later tie the game at 11-11 with 1:00 minute left and then hit a three-pointer followed by a two-point bucket to take a 16-11 lead at the end of the quarter. The two teams would trade points in the second only to be tied at 21 at the half. St Cecilia would turn it up in the 2nd half outscoring GICC 18-11 in the 3rd quarter and 14-11 in the 4th quarter to seal up the win. GICC would get 15 points from Bryndal Moody and Anna Tibbetts with 13 points. Sophmore Izzy Mueller would have 9 points including two made three-pointers. The Crusaders are now 11-11 on the season and will be back in action on Tuesday, February 18th in the C1-8 Sub-District tournament at Milford taking on the Broken Bow Indians. In the second game of the night the Crusaders would score a season high in points 81-39. GICC and St Cecilia would trade points early but then a 6-0 Crusader run after the 4:14 mark of the first quarter ended up giving GICC a lead of 21-11 at the end of the first quarter. GICC would hit the gas again in the 2nd quarter outscoring the Blue Hawks 15-8 to lead 36-19 at halftime. St Cecilia would have 25 turnovers in the game as GICC put the pressure on most of the night. In the 3rd quarter, GICC would outscore the Blue Hawks 30-8 including an 18-0 run to start the second half. The run-away would continue in the fourth quarter with the Saders winning the stanza 15-12. Braylon Wolfe led the way with 16 points. Thomas Liban had 12 points, Issac Urbanski had 10 points, and Thomas Birch had 9 points. GICC is now 18-3 on the season and will be back in action on Saturday, February 15th playing Sidney at 2:45 pm in the annual Heartland Hoops Classic at the Heartland Events Center.
