GICC Boys Basketball Downs Aquinas
(Grand Island, NE) - The GICC boy's basketball team would pick up their sixth win of the season on Monday night downing Aquinas Catholic 56-51. The game would go back and forth between the two Centennial Conference teams throughout the night. Aquinas jumped out to an 8-0 lead right out of the gate but then Thomas Liban would get the Crusaders on the board with his own 8-0 run including knocking in two straight three-pointers. The two teams would trade points with GICC having a one-point lead at the end of the first quarter 15-14.
In the second quarter, GICC would turn three straight Aquinas turnovers into points and would build a ten-point lead, 26-16. Aquinas would fight back to the only trail at halftime 29-24. The Crusaders would not give up their first-half lead in the second half as both teams would score 11 points in the third quarter and 16 points in the fourth quarter. Aquinas with the loss is now 9-9 on the season. GICC boys are 6-10 and back in action on Friday, February 2nd at Lexington. The girls will also play at Lexington after their game tonight at Aurora. Coverage starts with the Crusader girls tonight at 6:15 pm on KRGI 1430/105.5 & krgi.com. Friday at Lexington girl's game will start at 6:00 pm with the boy's game to follow at 7:45 pm.
