GICC Football Finishes State Runner Up
(Lincoln, NE) - The GICC football season would come to an end on Tuesday with a state runner-up finish, falling to Bishop Neumann in the C2 state championship game, 37-15.
The Crusaders would answer a Neuman 1st quarter score with a Jack Alberts 5-yard touchdown run and go for two, tacking on the extra points to take an 8-6 lead that would hold until the 3rd quarter. The two teams would then trade possessions, with turnovers and downs, fighting nearly 50mph wind gusts the entire game.
Bishop Neuman would score 16 points in the third quarter and add 15 more in the fourth quarter. Jack Van Slyke would have four touchdowns on the day for the Cavilears. The other score for GICC would come from Grayson Sack with a 51-yard touchdown run.
Neumann would out-yard the Crusaders in the game 289 to 175. Battling the wind, GICC would have just 41 passing yards. Bishop Neumann would have 28 passing yards in the game and rush for 261.
GICC ends the season with a record of 11-2. Neumann caps off the season with a 12-1 record after finishing runner-up a season ago.
