GICC Wins First Round State Football Playoff Game

(Grand Island, NE) - The Grand Island Central Catholic Crusader football team picked up a 49-14 win on Friday night, defeating the West Point Beemer Cadets in the first round of the Class C2 state football playoffs. 

GICC would jump out to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter, adding seven points in each quarter after. West Point Beemer would get a touchdown in the second and third quarters. 

Grayson Sack would go 10-14 through the air with 230 yards and three touchdowns. Jack Alberts would have 22 carries for 183 yards rushing with four touchdowns. Receiving the Crusaders were led by Conner Haney with 3 catches for 106 yards and two touchdown catches. 

The win gave the Crusaders their first playoff win since 2014. GICC would defeat Wilber Clatonia in the first round of the playoffs 35-34 in overtime.  

GICC will now host Archbishop Bergan on Friday, November 7th, for a Class C2 state quarter-final at 7:00 pm. Bergan defeated Wood River last Friday night 61-0.
