GIFD Provides 120 Winter Coats to Students in Need Through Operation Warm Partnership
Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Fire Department delivered warmth and comfort to local children Monday, distributing 120 brand-new winter coats to students across Grand Island Public Schools as part of Operation Warm, a national nonprofit dedicated to providing high-quality winter clothing to children in need.
The coats — along with gloves, hats and scarves — were provided to elementary students who otherwise may not have had access to adequate winter gear during Nebraska’s coldest months. GIFD members visited Dodge Elementary to personally help children choose their new items, creating a hands-on, meaningful experience for students and firefighters alike.
Operation Warm, founded in 1998, partners with fire departments, schools and community organizations across the country. Rather than collecting used clothing, Operation Warm manufactures brand-new coats that are specifically designed to keep children warm, dry and confident. The organization focuses on meeting not just physical needs but also supporting emotional well-being, helping kids feel valued and prepared to learn.
Grand Island Public Schools helped identify participating students and coordinate distribution across multiple buildings. Thanks to ongoing community support and the partnership between GIFD, GIPS and Operation Warm, the program continues to expand its reach each year.
GIFD extends its gratitude to everyone who has supported this effort. Together, the department and its partners are helping students stay warm, safe and ready to thrive throughout the winter season.
