GIPD Awarded Grant for Impaired Driving Enforcement Effort

Grand Island Police

Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Police Department has been awarded funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office to support enhanced impaired driving enforcement efforts from Friday, April 17 through Monday, April 20.

The enforcement initiative is part of a statewide effort aimed at reducing fatal and serious injury crashes caused by impaired driving. Through the mini-grant award, the department will receive up to $4,414 in reimbursement for overtime expenses associated with targeted enforcement activities.

During the enforcement period, officers will focus on identifying and removing impaired drivers from Grand Island roadways, with an emphasis on both alcohol- and drug-related offenses. The initiative is expected to contribute to safer travel conditions throughout the community. The grant is designed to support overtime enforcement efforts that go above and beyond regular patrol operations.

The Grand Island Police Department reminds residents to always plan ahead, designate a sober driver and never drive impaired. For more information, please contact Grand Island Communications Manager Spencer Schubert at [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>.
