GIPD Awarded Mini-Grant to Support Speed Enforcement
Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Police Department has received a $2,400 radar mini-grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office to assist in the purchase of two new radar units.
The funding, provided through the federal Section 402 Highway Safety Program, will help enhance the department’s ability to monitor and reduce speeding across the community. The two new Stalker DSR radar units will be used by patrol officers to address speeding concerns identified along several key roadways throughout the city.
As part of the three-year mini-grant agreement, the Grand Island Police Department will participate in at least two special enforcement mobilizations each year aimed at reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities. These efforts are part of the department’s ongoing commitment to promoting safer roadways for all who live, work and travel through Grand Island.
