GIPD in the Midst of Impaired Driving Saturation Overtime Grant

Grand Island, Neb. — Impaired driving continues to pose a significant threat to roadway safety across Nebraska. With tens of thousands of visitors pouring in for the Nebraska State Fair, the Grand Island Police Department (GIPD) is partnering with the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) to enhance enforcement efforts aimed at identifying and removing impaired drivers from the road.
The Grand Island Police Department has been awarded a $25,000 grant from NDOT to fund uniformed overtime patrols. This initiative includes both patrol officers and drug recognition experts who are working additional hours to specifically target impaired driving.
The enforcement period will coincides with the Nebraska State Fair and extend through the Labor Day holiday weekend, ending on September 1.
“Impaired driving is one of the most preventable causes of serious crashes and fatalities,” GIPD Police Chief Kevin Denney said. “This partnership with NDOT allows us to increase our enforcement presence during one of the busiest times of the year, helping keep our community and fair visitors safe.”
The Grand Island Police Department and the Nebraska Department of Transportation encourage all drivers to make responsible choices by planning ahead, designating a sober driver or arranging alternative transportation.
