GIPD Invites Neighborhoods to Participate in National Night Out

Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Police Department is inviting neighborhoods throughout the community to take part in National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4, by hosting block parties and neighborhood gatherings that strengthen relationships between residents and law enforcement.

National Night Out is an annual nationwide event focused on building police-community partnerships and fostering neighborhood connections to help make communities safer. Across the country, neighborhoods celebrate with block parties, cookouts and other family-friendly activities that bring neighbors together and encourage conversations with local first responders.

Neighborhoods in Grand Island that would like a visit from Grand Island police officers during their National Night Out event are encouraged to register their neighborhood online at www.gipolice.org/nationalnightout. The short registration form allows the Police Department to coordinate officer visits throughout the evening.

"National Night Out is one of our favorite opportunities each year to connect with the people we serve outside of emergency situations," GIPD Chief Kevin Denney said. "Getting to know our residents, listening to their concerns and simply spending time together helps build the trust and relationships that make our neighborhoods stronger and safer."

Residents are encouraged to organize neighborhood block parties, cookouts, ice cream socials or other gatherings that bring neighbors together. While officer availability may vary depending on calls for service, the department will make every effort to visit as many registered events as possible throughout the evening.
