Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Police Department has concluded its participation in the “420” Impaired Driving Enforcement Campaign, a targeted initiative focused on reducing impaired driving and improving roadway safety throughout the community.

Funded through a mini grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Office of Highway Safety, the enforcement campaign took place from April 17–20. The initiative provided overtime funding for officers to conduct focused patrols aimed at identifying impaired drivers, preventing crashes and enhancing public safety on local roadways.

During the campaign, seven officers worked a combined 70 hours of overtime, resulting in 249 traffic stops, 73 citations and 171 warnings over the four-day enforcement period.

In addition to traffic enforcement activity, officers made several notable contacts and arrests, including:

  *   10 fugitives apprehended
  *   15 speeding citations issued
  *   Two DUI alcohol arrests
  *   Two open container alcohol arrests
  *   Six careless or reckless driving citations or arrests
  *   Two arrests for operating a motor vehicle while attempting to flee law enforcement
  *   Three citations or arrests for leaving the scene of an accident
  *   Four citations or arrests for driving under suspension or revocation

The Grand Island Police Department thanks the Nebraska Department of Transportation Office of Highway Safety for its continued support in making these enforcement efforts possible.
