GRAND ISLAND (Neb.) — Grand Island Senior High is pleased to announce Shane Campbell as the new Head Coach of Girls Golf and D’Cean Bryant as the new Head Coach for Boys Basketball.

The new coaches will be stepping into their roles this Summer as previous Coach Jeremiah Slough is leaving the district at the end of the school year.

A familiar face within Grand Island Public Schools, Shane Campbell has been with the district for 13 years and currently serves as a Counselor at Walnut Middle School.  When it comes to the links, Campbell brings a wealth of experience to the Senior High girls squad.  As a high school athlete, Campbell was a four-year varsity letterman and qualified for the state tournament in both his junior and senior years. He continued his golf career at the collegiate level, playing for Southeast Community College in Beatrice. After college, his love for the game remained strong as he continued to play avidly while working as an assistant golf course superintendent at Bay Hills Golf Course—an experience that further deepened his understanding of the sport.

Coaching has long been a passion for Campbell. Over six years as a softball coach, he led teams to four state championships and two runner-up finishes, building a reputation for excellence and leadership.

As the head coach for Grand Island Senior High Girls Golf, Coach Campbell brings a strong foundation of athletic and coaching success. He is committed to instilling a love for the game while emphasizing dedication, discipline, and tenacity.

Looking to the hardwood, D’Cean Bryant brings over 15 years of extensive basketball experience, spanning AAU to professional levels, to the Grand Island basketball community.  Most recently, Bryant has served as the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Sage Hill School in Newport Coast, California.  He has coached numerous top-tier talents who advanced to college programs and the NBA.  During his coaching tenure in Southern California, he helped and led several teams to COF finals while winning 4 out of 6 California Southern Section titles.  Coach Bryant is committed to elevating GISH Basketball to its rightful status and building a program that the Grand Island community will take pride in both on and off the court.

Chris Ladwig, GISH Activities Director, affirmed the new hires and the exciting future of the programs.

“I would like to welcome Coach Campbell and Coach Bryant to our GISH coaching staff. They have a vision that will continue to build our programs The Islander Way.” Ladwig said, “Their experience, leadership, and passion for developing student-athletes will be a great asset to our programs. We look forward to the positive impact they will have with their respective sport.”

As the activities and sports programs continue to grow, Grand Island Senior High remains committed to providing opportunities for students to learn, compete, and thrive.  Coaches Campbell and Bryant will be great fits to lead the Islander Girls Golf and Boys Basketball programs into their next chapters.
