GISH Grad Named KJCCC Pitcher Of The Week
Cloud County Community College sophomore Cohen Nelson has been named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday, April 7.
Nelson, a left-hander from Grand Island, Nebraska, held Hutchinson in check as the T-Birds defeated the Blue Dragons 6-2 in game one of a KJCCC doubleheader on Saturday, April 4. Nelson, making his fifth start of the season, gave up one run on one hit over 5.2 innings, improving his record to 2-0. Nelson struck out a career-high 11 and now has 25 strikeouts in three conference starts this season. He retired eight in a row at one point in the contest.
Nelson's honor marks the Cloud County baseball program's seventh KJCCC weekly award of the 2026 season.
The T-Birds are ranked inside the top-five in the NJCAA Division I Baseball Rankings Presented by Netting Professionals for the fifth time this season. The T-Birds are slotted at No. 5 in the latest rankings, which were released Monday, April 6.
Cloud County has six ranked wins this season while compiling a 32-4 overall record and a 17-3 mark in KJCCC play. The T-Birds have won each of its five KJCCC series this year and are in first place in the KJCCC West following its KJCCC series win over previously-No. 12-ranked Hutchinson Community College last week.
Cloud County will open its next KJCCC series against Butler Community College on Thursday, April 9. First pitch will be at 1 pm at McDonald Stadium in El Dorado.
