Good Samaritan & St. Francis earn an ‘A’ for patient safety– Two of only four hospitals in the state
KEARNEY & GRAND ISLAND–CHI Health Good Samaritan and CHI Health St. Francis have both received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade rating from The Leapfrog Group. An “A” rated hospital sets the standard for excellence and safety in patient care, being recognized for their ability to protect patients from medical errors, accidents, injuries and infections.
The national non-profit watchdog group awarded an "A" rating, the highest possible achievement, to only four hospitals in Nebraska. This marks the fourth consecutive “A” for St. Francis and the fifth “A” rating for Good Samaritan.
“Its about making sure our community is in the safest hands possible when they walk through our doors,” says Steve Schieber, president, St. Francis and interim president, Good Samaritan. “For our patients and their families, it truly means peace of mind.”
“Earning the top recognition for patient safety nationwide is a huge accomplishment for all our staff. It reflects our careful attention and commitment to delivering safe, high-quality patient care,” says Kimber Bonner, vice president patient care, Good Samaritan.
The biannual Leapfrog Safety Grade is an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” assigned to general hospitals across the country based on 32 evidence-based performance measures.
CHI Health St. Elizabeth, Lincoln and CHI Health Lakeside, Omaha, fellow members of CommonSpirit, also received an "A" rating.
The complete grading information for both Good Samaritan and St. Francis can be found at www.HospitalSafetyGrade.org.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only ratings program focused exclusively on accidents, errors, injuries and infections that harm or kill patients in hospitals. It is updated twice a year in the fall and spring, offering the public a reliable, independent assessment of hospital safety. The grades are determined by public, peer-reviewed methodology, calculated by top patient safety experts under the guidance of a National Expert Panel. The grading system is fully transparent and always freely available to the public at hospitalsafetygrade.org. The Safety Grade is published by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit organization celebrating 25 years of driving a movement for giant leaps for patient safety.
