Gov. Pillen Welcomes Home Last National Guard Troops from D.C. Deployment

LINCOLN, NE -- Governor Jim Pillen extended his gratitude to the Nebraska National Guard today as a second group of service members returned home from their deployment to Washington, D.C., in support of the national Freedom250 celebrations.

Approximately 200 soldiers from the calvary, infantry, and military police units deployed in March to the nation’s capital in support of Operation Make DC Safe and Beautiful. In mid-July, the majority of those representing Nebraska’s arm of Task Force Wolf returned home. This morning, 23 additional service members were greeted by Gov. Pillen and senior Nebraska National Guard leaders. The private reception took place near the Joint Force Headquarters in Lincoln.

Four other Nebraska National Guard soldiers have volunteered to continue serving on the Washington, D.C. mission until roughly the end of October.

“We are extremely proud of Nebraska’s representation in Washington, D.C. leading up to the Fourth of July celebrations and then through some of the other events that have followed,” said Gov. Pillen. “The returning soldiers are undoubtedly glad to be back home with their family members and friends. They, along with the other members of the Guard, took on an important responsibility in ensuring the safety of visitors to the D.C. area this summer. As always, Nebraska was well-prepared and willing to do its part.” 

As part of Task Force Wolf, members of the Guard assisted with street patrols, supporting security at Metro stations as well as local parks and assisting local law enforcement agencies during a variety of events, including those involving significant crowd attendance.
