Grand Island Baseball Nips Kearney, 2-1

(Grand Island, NE) - Both teams were strong on the hill on Tuesday, but Grand Island defeated Kearney 2-1. Grayson Sack started the game for Grand Island and recorded 15 outs.

Grand Island didn't take the lead until later in the game. The game was tied at one in the bottom of the sixth when an error scored one run.

Kearney opened the scoring in the third after Gunner DeMilt singled, scoring one run.

Carson Washburn singled, which helped Grand Island Varsity Islanders tie the game at one in the bottom of the fifth.

Gabe Ruiz earned the win for Grand Island Varsity Islanders. The reliever allowed zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking none. Jake Bosshamer took the loss for Kearney Varsity Bearcats. The hurler went six innings, giving up two runs (zero earned) on five hits, striking out four and walking one. Sack stepped on the bump first for Grand Island. The hurler surrendered seven hits and one run over five innings, striking out six and walking none.

Washburn, Grand Island's number nine hitter, led the team with two hits in two at-bats. Grand Island Varsity Islanders didn't commit a single error in the field. Sam Schroeder had the most chances in the field with nine.

DeMilt led Kearney with one run batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. DeMilt and Keaton Wemhoff each collected two hits for the Bearcats. The Kearney Bearcats turned one double play in the game.

Grand Island welcomes Millard South on Friday for their next game.
