Grand Island Christmas Light Contest Returns with Expanded Prizes and Community Support

Grand Island, Neb. — The 2nd-Annual Grand Island Christmas Light Contest is back, bringing even more holiday cheer to neighborhoods across the community.

Thanks to the generosity of a local resident and community organizations, this year’s prize pool has grown to a total of $800. After providing $300 in 2024, community member Josh Smidt is providing a $500 Grand Prize donation.

An additional $300 in prize winnings is being donated by valued community partners at the Grand Island Area Economic Development Corporation & Chamber of Commerce, Grand Island Tourism and the Greater Grand Island Community Foundation.

Registration for the 2025 contest is officially open to the first 25 homes to sign up. Prize amounts will be $500 for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for third place.

Once registration closes, a team from Grand Island Parks & Recreation will evaluate all 25 participating homes and select the Top 5 displays. Those finalists will then be showcased on social media, where the general public will decide the winners.

The home receiving the highest combined interactions, including likes, shares and comments and more will take the top prize. This annual contest continues to highlight the creativity and community spirit that make Grand Island shine during the holiday season.
