Grand Island Community Fireworks Display Planning Underway for Expanded July 4 Celebration

Grand Island, Neb. — Planning is underway for Grand Island’s annual community fireworks display, which is expected to feature an expanded show as part of the USA250 commemoration and recognition of the settlement of Grand Island.

Although the event is still several months away, organizers have already begun coordinating major logistical components of the celebration. Planning efforts typically begin early in the year due to vendor availability, permitting requirements and the complexity involved in producing a large-scale public fireworks display. Committee member Greg Geis says preparations for the 2026 celebration began well in advance following guidance from fireworks professionals.

“We were advised to book the 2026 show two years ago because of the anticipated demand,” Geis said. “So, we’ve been planning for a while.”

The fireworks display is planned to launch from the Stuhr Museum grounds, providing a centralized viewing location for residents and visitors. Event organizers are working with local partners and public safety agencies to ensure appropriate safety planning, traffic management and crowd accommodations.

In addition to event logistics, the organizing committee is also seeking additional community members to assist with planning and coordination efforts. Several current members are completing their terms, creating opportunities for new volunteers to become involved. Subcommittees include marketing and communications, fireworks operations, logistics and safety coordination and general event planning.

“Our small group of community members originally came together to bring back a city-wide fireworks display after it had been absent for several years,” said committee member Dana Jelinek. “Now that we’ve successfully hosted a few events, we’re hoping to create something truly special for this historic year, launching from the Stuhr Museum.”
