Grand Island Downs Kearney To Advance To HAC Semi's


Grand Island scored six runs in the third inning, which helped them defeat Kearney 8-1 on Wednesday. Gabe Ruiz doubled, scoring two runs, Ethan Mader singled, scoring two runs, Gavin Ruether tripled, scoring one run, and a wild pitch scored one run.

Kearney opened the scoring in the first after Devin Carrell singled, scoring one run.

Grayson Sack grounded out, which helped Grand Island tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.

Grand Island took the lead in the bottom of the second. Ruether hit a solo home run to left field to give Grand Island the upper hand, 2-1.

Sack earned the win for Grand Island. The starting pitcher gave up four hits and one run over seven innings, striking out six and walking none. Jake Bosshamer took the loss for Kearney. The hurler went two and one-third innings, surrendering eight runs on five hits, striking out four and walking two.

Ruether and Mader were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Grand Island. Ruether, Mader, and Ruiz each drove in two runs for Grand Island.

Carrell led Kearney with one run batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Kearney didn't commit a single error in the field. Gunner DeMilt had the most chances in the field with eight.
