Grand Island drops pair of games in Omaha Friday

Omaha Westside scored eight runs in the third inning, which helped them defeat Grand Island Varsity Islanders 14-4 on Friday.
Grand Island Varsity Islanders opened the scoring in the top of the second thanks to two errors. Grand Island Varsity Islanders first got on the board when an error scored one run.
Omaha Westside tied the game in the bottom of the second thanks to an error, and a double by Braeden Hosey.
Omaha Westside flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the third, scoring eight runs on seven hits to take the lead, 11-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to center field by Duncan Hasnen that drove in three.
Omaha Westside scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a home run to left field by Liam Cronican.
Ben Weiss earned the win for Omaha Westside. The starter surrendered three hits and four runs (zero earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking one. Gabe Ruiz took the loss for Grand Island Varsity Islanders. The starting pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs (five earned) on six hits, striking out none and walking one.
Miles Nelson led Grand Island Varsity Islanders with one run batted in. The left fielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Nelson, Brody Davidson, and Grayson Sack each collected one hit for Grand Island Varsity Islanders.

Grand Island Varsity Islanders Keep It Close Against Omaha Central, Lose On Walkoff

A walk-off left Grand Island Varsity Islanders on the wrong end of a 6-5 defeat to Omaha Central on Friday. The game was tied at five in the bottom of the seventh when Grant Hamill hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
Grand Island Varsity Islanders lost despite out-hitting Omaha Central six to five. Miles Nelson, Brody Davidson, Carson Washburn, Ian Arends, Gavin Ruether, and Kelton Kearns each collected one hit for Grand Island Varsity Islanders.
Omaha Central were the first to get on the board in the third when an error scored one run.
Grand Island Varsity Islanders jumped into the lead in the top of the sixth when Nelson singled, scoring one run, and Arends doubled, scoring three runs.
Omaha Central captured the lead, 6-5, in the bottom of the seventh after Calix Pierce singled down the left field line, Boe Di Lorenzo walked, Quinn Whittinghill walked, and Hamill hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
James Raumaker earned the win for Omaha Central. The reliever gave up zero hits and zero runs over one-third of an inning, striking out none and walking none. Nelson took the loss for Grand Island Varsity Islanders. The hurler went two and one-third innings, allowing five runs on two hits, striking out four and walking four. Brock Cushing led things off on the bump for Grand Island Varsity Islanders. The pitcher allowed three hits and one run (zero earned) over four innings, striking out eight and walking one. Luke Neujahr led things off on the bump for Omaha Central. The starter surrendered five hits and two runs over five and one-third innings, striking out three and walking three.
