Grand Island Falls To Lincoln East In First Round Of State
(Omaha, NE) - Grand Island lost to Lincoln East 7-3 on Friday at Tal Anderson Field in the first round of the Class A state baseball tournament.
Lincoln East were the first to get on the board in the fourth when an error scored one run.
Grand Island captured the lead, 3-1, in the top of the fifth when Grayson Sack singled, scoring one run, and Gabe Ruiz doubled, scoring two runs.
Lincoln East took the lead, 7-3, in the bottom of the sixth thanks to doubles by Brodie McIntire, and Cade Anderson.
Greyson Bjorkman earned the win for Lincoln East . The reliever gave up one hit and zero runs over one and one-third innings, striking out three and walking none. Miles Nelson took the loss for Grand Island. The reliever went two-thirds of an inning, giving up five runs on three hits, striking out none and walking three. Brock Cushing started on the bump for Grand Island. The starter allowed seven hits and two runs (one earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking one. Kalai Larsen stepped on the mound first for Lincoln East . The starting pitcher surrendered two hits and three runs (zero earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking four.
Ruiz provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Grand Island with two runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Sam Schroeder led Grand Island with two hits in three at bats.
Lincoln East accumulated 10 hits in the game. Anderson provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Lincoln East with three runs batted in. The infielder went 3-for-4 on the day. Sam Sutko and Bradyn Erickson each collected multiple hits for Lincoln East . Bryson Rhodes paced Lincoln East with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing six walks for the game.
