Grand Island Parks & Recreation Reminds Residents of Grand Island Games Registration Deadline

Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Parks & Recreation Department is reminding residents that the deadline to register for the 2026 Grand Island Games (GIG) is Friday, July 3.

The Grand Island Games is an adult, Olympic-style community competition scheduled for July 30 – August 1. The multi-day event brings together teams from across the community for a weekend centered around recreation, teamwork and community spirit.

Teams may be made up of co-workers, neighborhoods, churches, service clubs, friend groups and other community organizations. Participants will compete in a wide variety of activities, including sand volleyball, tug-of-war, combat archery, bowling, trivia, pickleball, Texas Hold’em, darts, obstacle courses, axe throwing and more.

Organizers say the event is designed to give participants the opportunity to try new recreational activities, meet new people, build team pride, strengthen community connections and enjoy a fun-filled weekend. All registered participants will receive a complimentary team T-shirt and dinner at the awards ceremony. Awards will also be presented to top teams and individual finishers.

The registration fee is just $25 per participant. Registration forms and additional event information are available online at www.giparks.com/gig. For more information, contact the Grand Island Parks & Recreation Office at (308) 389-0298 or email [email protected]
