Grand Island Public Library Adjusts Hoopla Checkout Limit, Announces New Unlimited E-Audiobook Service Coming Soon
Grand Island, NE – September 30, 2026 – Starting October 1, Grand Island Public Library will change the monthly Hoopla checkout limit from seven to five items per patron. The change responds to rapidly growing demand for the library's digital collection and is designed to help as many patrons as possible get access to Hoopla's popular e-content.
"Our community's enthusiasm for digital content has been wonderful to see," said Celine Swan Library Director. "Hoopla has become so popular that we've been reaching our daily lending caps, which means some patrons have been unable to borrow titles. Adjusting the monthly limit helps us share this resource more fairly, so more people in our community can enjoy it."
More audiobooks are on the way
The library will soon launch a new e-audiobook platform that offers unlimited audiobook checkouts for patrons. Audiobooks currently make up nearly 75% of Hoopla use at the Grand Island Public Library, so the new service will give digital audiobook fans far more room to listen, without counting against their Hoopla limit.
"We know how much our patrons love audiobooks," said Swan. "This new platform means our listeners will have more choices than ever, and Hoopla will remain available for movies, music, comics, eBooks and more."
Details about the new platform, including its name, launch date and how to get started, will be announced soon.
What patrons need to know:
Beginning October 1, patrons may borrow up to 5 Hoopla titles per month.
Hoopla remains free with a Grand Island Public Library card.
