Grand Island Runs Away From Hastings, 19-0
(Hastings, NE) - Grand Island scored 10 runs in the third inning, which helped them defeat Hastings 19-0 on Monday afternoon at Duncan Field.
Grand Island got on the board in the top of the first inning after Grayson Sack singled, scoring one run, and Gavin Ruether hit a grand slam to left field.
Grand Island added two runs in the second after Sack singled to center field on a full count.
Grand Island scored 10 runs on three hits in the top of the third inning. Miles Nelson drew a walk, scoring one run; Ian Arends hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run; Sam Schroeder singled, scoring one run; Sack drew a walk, scoring one run; Ethan Mader tripled, scoring three runs; a wild pitch scored one run; Brody Davidson doubled, scoring one run; and an error scored one run.
Peyton Drake led things off on the bump for Hastings. The hurler surrendered three hits and seven runs (six earned) over two innings, striking out two and walking four. Sack opened the game for Grand Island. The hurler surrendered one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out four and walking none.
Drake and Zane Thomsen were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for Hastings while hitting back-to-back. Hastings turned one double play in the game.
Ruether went 1-for-1 at the plate and led the team with four runs batted in. Sack went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Grand Island in hits. Grand Island had a strong eye at the plate, piling up 12 walks for the game. Ruether and Arends led the team with two walks each.
Grand Island, with the win, moves to 13-5 on the season. The Islanders will next be in action on Wednesday, April 22nd, at Lincoln Northstar. Hastings drops to 5-12.
