Grand Island Season Comes To An End
(Omaha) NE) - Both teams were strong on the hill on Tuesday, but Papillion-LaVista South was just a little bit stronger at the plate in their 3-1 victory over Grand Island at the Class A state baseball tournament. Miles Nelson started the game for Grand Island and recorded 15 outs.
Papillion-LaVista South opened the scoring in the bottom of the third thanks to two singles. Papillion-LaVista South first got on the board when Matthew Gorman singled, scoring one run.
Jackson Willer earned the win for Papillion-LaVista South. The hurler gave up one hit and one run (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out eight and walking two. Nelson took the loss for Grand Island. The starting pitcher went five innings, giving up three runs on three hits, striking out two, and walking four.
Gavin Ruether went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in.
Drew Ripple and Gorman each drove in one run for Papillion-LaVista South. Gorman went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Papillion-LaVista South in hits.
The Islanders' spring season comes to an end with a record of 20-11.
