Grand Island Shuts Out Lincoln Southwest, 2-0


Grand Island Islanders Baseball

(Grand Island, NE) - Grand Island defeated Lincoln Southwest  2-0 on Thursday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Miles Nelson and Brock Cushing each pitched for Grand Island in the game. Nelson induced a pop-up from Ty Phillips to get the last out.

Both teams were strong on the bump. Grand Island pitchers struck out six, while Lincoln Southwest sat down four.

A fielder's choice by Brody Davidson put Grand Island on the board in the bottom of the second.

Cushing earned the win for Grand Island. The starting pitcher gave up four hits and zero runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking three. Kaden Millard took the loss for Lincoln Southwest. The starter went four and one-third innings, surrendering one run on four hits, striking out two, and walking three. Nelson collected the save.

Davidson led Grand Island with one run batted in. Ethan Mader went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Grand Island in hits. Grand Island turned one double play in the game. Grand Island was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Sam Schroeder had the most chances in the field with six.

Phillips, Jaxon Pieper, Luke Mitchell, and Caison Seymore each collected one hit for Lincoln Southwest. Lincoln Southwest turned one double play in the game.

Next up for Grand Island (16-7) is a game against Elkhorn North on Saturday.
