Grand Island Splits A Pair Of Games At Lincoln East Tournament

(Lincoln, NE) - Grand Island could not keep pace with Kearney, 5-2, on Friday at the Lincoln East Tournament.

Grand Island opened the scoring in the second after Miles Nelson singled, scoring one run.

Talyn Lewis grounded into a fielder's choice, which helped Kearney tie the game at one in the top of the third.

In the top of the fourth inning, Kearney went back into the lead after Jake Bosshamer singled to center field, and Chase Bentz popped into a double play, each scoring one run.

Kash Fosher earned the win for Kearney. The pitcher surrendered four hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out two and walking four. Brock Cushing took the loss for Grand Island. The starter went six and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs (three earned) on nine hits, striking out four and walking none.

Nelson went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Gavin Ruether, Nelson, Brody Davidson, and Carson Washburn each collected one hit for Grand Island. Grand Island turned one double play in the game.

Kearney amassed nine hits in the game. Devin Carrell led Kearney with three hits in four at-bats from the leadoff position. Bentz and Bosshamer each collected multiple hits for Kearney. Kearney turned one double play in the game. Kearney was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Ethan DeHaven had the most chances in the field with eight.

(Lincoln, NE) - Miles Nelson threw a shutout to lead Grand Island past Lincoln North Star 7-0 on Saturday.

Grand Island got on the board in the first inning after Gabe Ruiz singled, scoring two runs.

Preston Graff took the loss for Lincoln North Star. The righty went five innings, surrendering four runs (two earned) on eight hits, striking out none and walking none.

Grand Island tallied nine hits in the game. Ruiz provided a pop in the middle of the lineup and led the Islanders with two runs batted in. The first baseman went 1-for-3 on the day. Grayson Sack led Grand Island with two hits in four at-bats. GI turned one double play in the game.

Jameson Lantz, Logan Murphy, and Brandt Warner each collected one hit for Lincoln North Star. Lincoln North Star turned one double play in the game.

Grand Island (14-7) will now play one more game at the Lincoln East tournament on Saturday, April 25th from Den Hartog Field vs Waverly at 10:00 am.
