Grand Island Splits A Pair Of Games At Lincoln East Tournament
(Lincoln, NE) - Grand Island could not keep pace with Kearney, 5-2, on Friday at the Lincoln East Tournament.
Grand Island opened the scoring in the second after Miles Nelson singled, scoring one run.
Talyn Lewis grounded into a fielder's choice, which helped Kearney tie the game at one in the top of the third.
In the top of the fourth inning, Kearney went back into the lead after Jake Bosshamer singled to center field, and Chase Bentz popped into a double play, each scoring one run.
Kash Fosher earned the win for Kearney. The pitcher surrendered four hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out two and walking four. Brock Cushing took the loss for Grand Island. The starter went six and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs (three earned) on nine hits, striking out four and walking none.
Nelson went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Gavin Ruether, Nelson, Brody Davidson, and Carson Washburn each collected one hit for Grand Island. Grand Island turned one double play in the game.
Kearney amassed nine hits in the game. Devin Carrell led Kearney with three hits in four at-bats from the leadoff position. Bentz and Bosshamer each collected multiple hits for Kearney.
