Grand Island, NE - The Grand Island community is set to join the nationwide celebration of “Welcoming Week” from September 13th to 22nd, as the Grand Island Welcoming Initiative and Welcoming America team up with local organizations to foster cross-cultural connections and celebrate our diverse community. The festivities aim to bring neighbors together and encourage connection, ultimately building a stronger and more inclusive community for all.
Welcoming Week is an opportunity to embrace cultural diversity and create an atmosphere of inclusiveness. Grand Island’s participation in this nationwide event underlines the community’s commitment to building bridges across cultures and promoting inclusivity.

Throughout the Welcoming Week, the Grand Island community will host a series of vibrant and engaging events at different locations. These events are free and open to everyone, offering opportunities for neighbors of all backgrounds to come together and experience the rich tapestry of cultures that make up Grand Island. For an added bonus, event planners have organized the Tour de Grand Island; a culinary experience for community members to try different foods from around the world right here in Grand Island while supporting immigrant-owned small businesses!
Event Highlights: HEAR GI Bridge Concert, Welcoming our Neighbors - Storytime and Activity at Rooted Books & Gifts, Latino Identity & Language in the Midwest - Interactive Discussion with Dr.Velasquez at Central Community College-GI Campus, 4th Street Business Tour, To the State of the Good Life Film Screening, Mural Painting at Literacy Council of Grand Island, Naturalization Ceremony, Courage to Care Leadership Training & Workshop. All week long on the Welcoming Initiative Facebook page, various historic immigrant-owned businesses will be highlighted, thanks to Stuhr Museum!
